I recently got back from studying abroad in London, UK where I studied for a semester and interned at a startup marketing firm. I gained a lot of valuable experience while working with the Creative Commerce Group, and consider myself fortunate to have gotten the chance to learn about global market trends in one of the top financial cities in the world. I ended up staying abroad an extra two months after my semester to travel, stay with family and experience my parents’ culture in Poland and to work remotely. While getting to solo travel in Europe, I did remote freelance marketing work. I've continued freelance marketing work since then, and have completed 15 projects that range from web development to market research, email marketing to content creation, blog writing to on-site brand ambassador event marketing. I’ve experienced the incredibly eye-opening diversity of aspects the marketing field has to offer. I was lucky enough to get experience working with incredible established companies as well as start-ups, and to learn a range of different skills to help me realize that I am passionate about becoming a successful marketer. I am a very creative person and I strive for out-of-the-box thinking. I seek out unique experiences and roles that wouldn't typically come my way without putting in the extra effort. I want to continue to explore new places, meet new people, and to learn as much as I possibly can about the world of marketing and branding.
In high school, I was the president of our Best Buddies chapter. It was one place that made me feel special and important. The joy that you can bring to someone through inclusion and friendship is an amazing thing, and that's what I experienced in this club every day. The friendships created are incomparable to anything else I will ever experience.
For three out of four of my high school years, I was on the executive board of our Best Buddies chapter. I knew right away that I wanted to continue to get more involved. By my senior year when I became chapter president, I had already implemented five new yearly activities for the chapter and grew the chapter size by 25%. I wanted to provide the students with IDD (intellectual and developmental disabilities) as many opportunities to connect with other students and form lifelong bonds as possible. As president, I enacted a block of time during the school day in between classes to play games and spend time with the buddies, as well as lunch dates. I did this while also being the teacher’s aide for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities, as well as the captain of the varsity girls soccer team and tennis team. I was constantly multitasking, planning meetings, practices, events, group activities, along with running the three social media accounts.
Now in college, I’ve started working with Special Olympics CT and have already been a part of putting together two virtual events, two corn hole tournaments, a fundraising walk, and a soccer tournament. I was also the Director of Sisterhood for Alpha Phi Fraternity, where I planned sisterhood events to Boston, ice-skating, paint balling, and roller skating events in different venues. I also started working as a student administrative assistant for The One Card Office at the University of Connecticut where I had responsibilities such as issuing UConn Husky One Cards to students/employees, troubleshooting One Card issues, and educating the UConn community about our programs. I also was tasked with the Marketing tasks in the office, such as designing flyers to put up around campus and in office, digital ads for the office, etc.
I also had the amazing opportunity of working with a UConn alumni who started the company 'Merican Mule. In this time that I worked with this company, as a summer intern and remotely during my first semester of junior year, I managed the social media accounts, created my own digital assets, wrote and assembled blog posts, worked with content creator outreach, learned a lot about the alcohol industry and what it's like to work at an early-stage startup company. I'm so grateful for my time working with Hailee Parenteau (Marketing manager) and Dean Mahoney (CEO).
More to come soon...
